I am having a real problem with the alternator bracket from Macs. After installing there is not enough room between the fan and radiator.

A photo of the bracket as installed would help. My '47 has an alternator bracket and the alternator is driven off a belt that loops around the crank and both water pumps. I don't know who made it. My fan is positioned below the alternator and drives off a crank pulley.

Thanks for the advice. I will send the picture as soon as the snow melts in front of the garage where the Ford spends its winters.

I used Mac's bracket on my '48. I found the machine work to be less than stellar, but it seemed to fit correctly. I have not fired the motor yet however. I used a pulley from Speedway.

Here's a picture of the installed bracket from another angle.

Ritzy1: Thanks for the picture. Included is the picture of my installed bracket without the fan since there is no room for the fan between the bracket and radiator.

I got mine from Certified Auto Electric. They have ads in the V8 Times. Got 6 volt alt. there also. had it for 10years with no problem. When after about 6 months it was only putting out about 6.8 volts. They replaced it with no questions asked.

Another alternative is to have your original generator converted to an alternator and mounted in its stock position. Ed Whitney does these conversions and advertises in The V-8 Times.

I did a little mill work on a 1950 8BA bracket to install an alternator on my 46 with the 59AB engine. Used the new smaller GM alternator and it's been trouble free so far.
