51 Ford F1 truck, 8ba engine. I have oil coming up thru the dipstick. Too much internal pressure. An earlier owner replaced the road draft tube with a hose which has a pcv valve on it. The hose just hangs down, not connected at the other end. I am told the hose should be connected to one of the vaccuum inlets at the base of the carb, to suck these gases back thru the combustion chambers. Which of the two intake openings at the base of the carb (actually in the intake manifold) do I connect this hose?

Well , you want full ( manifold ) vacuum , so it shouldn't matter , as either one will give you that .

I have completed the hook-up to the intake manifold. I have a pcv valve in the connecting hose. Is it necessary>

The PCV valve is a restrictor. You will have a massive vacuum leak with just a hose connected to the manifold. The engine will pull through the open hose instead of fuel/air through the carburetor. You need the valve or plug the vacuum source.

Why do you feel you need a PCV valve? I don't believe it came from the factory with one, nor was the engine designed to have one. Put the original road draft tube back on and remove the PCV.

I had problem with my 36 leaking oil out the rear main seal, which is a slinger seal. come to Find out I had a hole in my intake manifold at the head riser. I fought it for a year before I figured it out. Roger
