VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)

On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

Can anyone tell me the demensions for a 40 heater motor? Shaft length & Dia., Overall motor length, Case Bolts center to center, etc. My heater motor is not the correct motor, and is a two wire motor, and has some internal problems. I'm not sure the motor I have fits properly. When I bought the car, the heater was not working, and it seems the motor didn't fit right. The fan assembly was rubbing where it passes through the metal piece between the blades and squirrel cage. I read that NAPA sells a motor that is suppose to fit, and can be bought in either a 6 volt or 12 volt version, and it is reversable. I would appreciate any help. If the motor I have turns out to be the correct size, I can probably find an outfit to rebuilt it. I know it won't be 100% correct, but at least I can have and use the 40 heater that came with my car.

If you're interested in a after market replacement, I have one from C&G cheap. Installed it in my '48 then realized the original could be repaired and removed it. It's a 6v two wire. 2 3/4 diameter. Mounting bolts 2 1/4 apart. 1/4 shaft. Carl

Thanks Carl!! I will keep that it mind. My motor is 3" in diameter, 2 1/2" mounting face to mounting face, 1/4" shaft. Overall length of motor is 3 3/8", not including shaft. The shaft is 7/8" long, and looks like it has been shortened, as the end of the shaft is not flat across. The only marking on the motor is a circle with an underlined LN inside the circle. There is a number, but all I can make out is what looks like ?42. Both of these markings are on the rear mounting face. The mounting bolts or studs are about 1/8" in dia, and 11/16" long. I would assume these are about half the dia. that they should be.??? Dave

Do you have the proper switch that takes the 4 wires and reverses the motor? That very well may be the hardest part to come up with.
You are talking about a hot water heater right??

No, I do not, but I know they are pretty expensive, if you can find them. If I can get the demensions for the stock motor, then maybe I can find a motor that will fit. It won't be the 4 wire, but they do make reversable motors that are two wire. I'm needing the specs for the original motor. If I could find an original motor at a reasonable price, I would think about using the 4 wire original, but then I would also HAVE to use the original switch to make it work right. Yes, I am talking Hot Water Heater. Thanks for your reply!!! Dave

Do you have a complete heater? It sounds like the shaft has been cut down on the motor. Besides the squirrel cage inside the housing, there should be a conical part of the housing with a hole that the motor shaft protrudes through and there is a multi blade propeller out there. To facilitate this, a 7/8" shaft length wouldn't reach out to where the multi bladed fan attaches.

C&G shows a "universal" motor. The diameter is 2 7/8", 2 3/4 long, with a quarter inch diameter shaft, $80. The motor can be wired to reverse using an original type control that flips polarity. Heaters were not usually factory installed, and the dealer furnished it. This resulted in several different models and manufacturers. I found one for my '47 from a salvage place in Missouri after a long search. Most of these heaters don't produce much warmth, even on high speed.

Thanks Much!!! Those measurements sound like they will work very well. Not much heat is better than no heat. I don't drive it in the winter, but on cool days, it's nice to have a little heat for my bones. We usually have many nice driving days when the temps are lower, and to have the heater would let me enjoy the car that much more.

I have a '40 heater in my '36 and it works so good that I run it on low speed with the valve almost closed. It has a replacement motor that is about a 1/4'' to long and the blade scr*ped until I shimmed the case in the right place and now it works better than fine. Also, the car is 12 volt and I use a resister for thew 6 volt motor.
