will a 97 carb be ok on a rebuilt 59a flathead? Using a shop rebuilt 94 carb but cannot get it to run smoothly. The valves are a litle noisy and plan to open the engine and check clearances and maybe install a known good 97 carb. Engine Just overhauled and started a day ago. vacumn 16 and all cylinders read evenly around 75-80lbs. No experienc using the 94. Thanks

Compression sounds a little low but cause could be rings have not seated yet,may go up with some driving miles on it. Yes a 97 will work just as well as a 94 on that engine NO problem. ken ct.

Change Carburetors, if you know you have a good 97 and see how it runs, especially at idle. The valve noise, low vacuum, can both be a sign of a bad Carb. take a look at the plugs and make sure they are not fouled with soot. Your 94 could have a bad power valve or the gasket for the power valve may be leaking.
