I have a 1938 Ford sedan with the 85 hp engine. I just replaced the oil pan gasket and am ready to add new oil. What grade of oil should I use?

I agree. I use Castrol 20W-50, as it is readily available. If not, Sh*ll Rotella 15-40 will work. It helps to keep oil pressure up somewhat when the engine is hot. Castrol comes in 5 quart jugs, while the Rotella is in gallon containers. Four quarts is correct for your 85HP unless it has a filter, then 5 quarts is the correct fill, so if you have a filter, and buy Rotella, get an extra quart.
