For judging does the red strip on the lower hoses have to be a certain orientation. The pictures I have seen for the top hoses face the rear of the car but can't find anything on the lower ones

No, the orientation is not important. Ken

Whomever told you the red stripes had to be oriented a certain way has never bothered to educate themselves with even a peek at Ford archives photos of vehicles on an assembly line. Ford did not pay its workers for things that mattered to no one.

3W2, Hilarious! Not so much your response but the fact that some folks might actually believe that Ford Co. paid their workers to assemble the cars with the stripes at a certain degree of orientation. Folks, Fords were low priced cars aimed at (marketed to)"the masses". As such, they were assembled at a high rate of speed to keep costs as low as possible.

Such imperfections as trunk and rumble lids not mating perfectly with their openings, visible tooling striations on the frame, and all those famously misaligned screw slots are not considered on the EFV8 Club’s Concourse.

Not to mention the V on the hubcap always pointing to the valve stem.

By the same token, you should not be penalized if you do align the red stripes on the hoses as the odds are that it likely happened randomly from time to time in 200,000 plus possible chances.

Thank you for the reply. I had seen pictures of Dearborn award cars and they had the upper hoses facing the rear. Just wanted to make sure

Here is an original factory photo of the Ford engine assembly line showing the upper radiator hoses. A stripe is visible on one of the hoses. No particular orientation can be seen here. LOL...make sure to scuff up your hoses as seen in the photo...LOL
