What's a good way to slightly lift and support the engine in oder to replace the water pump on a 40?

Place a thick, wide board under the oil pan to distribute the load and use a jack to raise the engine. You should remove both motor mount nuts when you do this.

Thanks. I know that this isn't rocket science and this confirms my thought as how to do it.

The rocket science part is knowing there is a bolt that is only visible/accessible through the part of the water pump where the hose is attached. Thanks to Mac VanPelt you can see this at: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_waterpump-removal.htm Charlie Stephens
