The 39 Mercury hood moldings will fit on a 1940 Mercury, but they are a different shape. The different moldings show up on E-Bay occasionally. The door and rear quarter moldings are difficult to find and are expensive when auctioned off. The hood moldings show up more often. You can place a want ad on this site in the Classified section and also on the FordBarn.com web site.

sorry about this mistake, this was for a 1939 FORD DELUXE, not a 1939 MERCURY the for sale on this web site in the parts forsale is a beautiful 1939 deluxe hood and is complete, with all moulding's plus release handle and hood trim, if you think about it might a cheaper way to go use what you need and sell the rest, hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN an KEEP on FORDIN,,,!!!

The Ford parts numbering system consists of a central "group" number, which is the same for all parts of its kind, preceded by a number and letter that tells you the year range, and a suffix number that lays out the various differences within the subject as an alphabetical indicator (A,B,C, etc). It is not unusual to find "running changes" which dictate different trims, etc, in the same year and model. This may sound confusing, but compared to other makes, it is much simpler to decode. Some vendors omit the full designation, causing confusion when ordering.

The correct moldings will start with the 09A prefix. The correct hood moldings have the P/N 09A-16722 and 09A-16723. If you need the P/N for other moldings, I will get them for you. Where are you located?

I have not had to buy moldings in over 25 years, so I do not have a good idea of the market price. They look very restorable. The dent that he has a closeup of is going to take a lot of work to make the moldings look right and there is quite a bit of corosion on one of the pieces with deep pits. The top on the convertible is operated by vacuum from the engine. There are two cylinders behind the back seat that operate the top. See the attached drawing. I have a 40 Mercury Coupe and my 8 year old Granddaughter loves it and enjoys riding in it and going to car shows in it.
