What is the best way to put more tenision on the fastner that holds the lock cover on a 40 coupe trunk handle? Mine is too loose but still attached. Thanks Tom.

I have found the need to repair one of these many years ago. I had a helper push down the spring with a couple of small screw drivers while I built up a little solder on the pin. It actually worked quite well.

I removed the crimped nut on the shaft and then used a new spring. This works only on the Ford part, the reproductions will not stand the force needed to remove the nut.

I have now noticted that the spring is gone. How do you remove that crimped nut and what did you use for a spring? Thanks Tom.

The nut on mine was a brass nut and I used a pair of pilers to flatten the peened over flare enough so that I was able to pull the nut off. I found a spring that was the same diameter at the hardware store. I just cut it to length.
