My new 8n had antifreeze in the oil pan..don't know why yet...my parts book has freeze plugs for 8n listed, they say it takes 4,anyone know where they are at in the motor....inside?? Thanks

IT's an 8-n tractor...probably a 1948 model...distributor on front

I too am not sure. The ford V8 had 4 3/4" welsh plugs in the oil pan rail (two on each side), with the V8 they can leak and put coolant in the oil pan. The outside of the engine block bulges where the plugs are to give more room. Check there, if they are leaking they often leak outside the pan as well as inside.

Your tractor has 4 plugs on the left (out)side of the block. Two are behind the starter. If they leak, they typical leak on the outside. I'd suspect some other cause - head gasket, maybe or crack in block or ...

...you might also try "N Tractor Club" (www.ntractorclub.com). They have a lot of good info on the N series.

Let me start by saying I know nothing about the 8n engine. Having said that did you look behind the flywheel? Be sure to post where they are when you find out. Charlie Stephens
