Has anybody used the carburetor spacer advertised by Robert Shewman out of Kimberton Penn.?Interested in it for my 48 sedan.Thanks John lubinski

John: Robert Shewman makes a very good fuel hose, but there is lack of data that would suggest you need an insulating carb spacer. Many of us feel it is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

I agree that it is a solution looking for a problem. What kind of carburetor problems are you having?

John I have had one of Shewmans spacers on my engine for a year. It works well and prevents the new fuel from boiling during a brief stop. I also recommend his fuel hose from fuel pump to carb. The new fuel ate mine to the point that it literally crumbled up in my hand when I removed it.

When the weather is warm in my 1946 sedan I get vapor lock.

I put Shewman's spacer on. Had to rebend my fuel line from the pump to the carb because of the added height of the carb. Didn't notice any benefit. The heating of the carb that boils the gas is from the entire engine heating the entire engine compartment, not just the intake manifold. How do I know? If I lift the hood when I pull into the garage the gas doesn't boil (and didn't boil even before the spacer.) I personally wouldn't waste your time and money.

John, Vapor lock is when the fuel in the line from the pump to the carburetor boils as well as the fuel in the sediment bowl boiling. I have attached a copy of the fuel pump article that I wrote for the V-8 Times. It explains how to trouble shoot fuel pump problems.
