I believe that several of the aftermarket wheel makers have or make the original style of 16" wheels for the '48 Fords. Original wheels are quite common because they were used on the F100's through '64, F100 wheels after '64 have external hubcap knobs in lieu of the internal type. Generally speaking the '48 and earlier wheels will be 16 x 4.5 with a lug pattern of 5 on 5.5. Later wheels can have rim widths of up to 5.5 inches. Many people are not aware that Ford offered the 16" wheels as an option on the F100's after '57 when Ford switched to 15" wheels as the standard on F100's. I probably have at least a half dozen 16 x 4.5/5.5" original Ford wheels in my wheel collection.

Check with Wheel Vintiques which is owned by Coker or Wheelsmith. All offer 16" wheels. Actually Summit Racing handles wheels from Wheel Vintiques and if they carry the 16's you can save on the shipping and the sales tax.
