where are the freeze plugs located

The freeze plugs are located on each side of the block in the center of the oil pan rail where it contacts the top of the oil pan. The two convex plugs are of 1 1/8" diameter.

how many plug are there in total? how many per side?

There are just two freeze plugs in total - one per side. There is also a larger diameter plug in the block at the rear of the camshaft that does not come into contact with the cooling system.
