I'm sure we have all dealt will excesive fuel pressure. The pumps we get now put out 3-4# and flood the carb,so we use a presure regulator or shim up the fuel pump tower to bring the pressure down. I don't remember this being a problem back in the old days.[1950s] Is it the fuel pumps we're getting today or what? I do remember that back in the day the fuel pump was considered the weak link in the fuel system. Did they produce less pressure? Do any of you old geezers like me have any input on this?

The big spring under the diaphragm mostly controls the pressure it puts out. Most of the pumps coming in from China have too heavy a spring in them causing too high a pressure. Use the old spring from the original pump if its still useable cleaned up. 2-2 1/2# is all they need. ken ct. OMO.

Thanks, Ken ct. I suspected that is the problem, I just didn't think of that solution. Now I can take the pressure reg. off. It does the job, but in my opinion,just doesn't look right on a V8. Cliftford

Most people would be better off purchaseing a rebuilt pump from 1 of the few rebuilders in the usa that do these pumps. All but the newist of the newbies should know who they are by now.This spring bit is pretty well known for the last few years. ken ct.
