Allen, There was a thread going about this subject last month. I have found that "STP/Motor Honey" works very well in the old car steering gears, it does not leak out like gear oil. It is a little difficult to install, however, if you sit it out in the sun and use a small funnel, the job is easier. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

The old "usual fix" was to fill the steering box with chassis lube. The result was rapid wear on the important part of the worm that allows the steering to "center". The combination of STP and chassis lube works better, as does a mixture of 90-140 gear oil and STP. We also have used the 600 weight oil that was designed for the Model A transmission. It is really a thin asphalt solution, and somewhat abrasive, not altogether desirable. In any case, mix the solution until it has the consistency of jelly, and insert it with your grease gun. The STP provides a film of lube for the worm.
