I installed a 6 volt optima battery in my 35 coupe and the battery is to tall. It hits the metal cover. Any thoughts on how to fix. I guess I'm going to have to make a tray that is and inch deep that will fit in the existing battery box area and sit battery in.

Try laying the Optima on its side.

I just went through the same thing in my 35. I Had a step down Al. box or bracket made which just dropped in betewwn the original lip or base of original holder. It was made so it was a push fit so no bolts or screws were needed. I put the optima battery in and cut wood which also pressed in to hold the battery tight. I can remove it in the time it takes to disconnect the battery and lift both items out. Then it is still ORIGINAL. It worked for me.

Went through this a year ago in fitting a new Optima 6v in my '35 coupe. Ended up dropping the battery hold down using long bolts from my local hardware store. To secure the Optima vertically as it's designed, I bought an Optima hold-down bracket made and sold by Bert's Model A Ford parts in Denver. http://www.modelastore.com/Specials,%20Whats%20New.htm

FWIW...never had very good luck with any Optima, deep cycle or starting.

i bought a new optima in 2006 and had trouble from the start. it would not hold a charge for more than 2 days. interstate tested and verified it was defective, and replaced it. it was a world of difference. it can sit for weeks with barely no discharge in 10-20 degree weather. i've had the replacement over 2 years. i put it on a slant under the floor. no one can see it unless they go under the car to look. tom
