Planning to have the ash tray and hood latch handles of my '35 deluxe sedan replated. Could someone please advise what they are plated with. I'm guessing chromium or nickel. Thanks! Roger J.

Roger, a quality plating job would consist of cleaning and filling of pits, followed by copper plating and polishing, followed by nickel plating and polishing, then finished up with chrome plating and final polishing. This process is termed "Triple Chrome Plate". I don't know if triple plate is still being done today anywhere Stateside, but I don't think there is a better process than triple plate, as the quality of the result is dependent on the quality of preparation.

I recommend Qual-Krom in Erie, PA. They specialize in die cast parts plating and smaller items. They have superior quality and attendtion to detail...and from what I have found, they are the most cost competitive shop in the industry.

'35 hood latch handles were originally painted the same color as the hood, not plated.
