Probably a street rod. Genuine old Ford taillights are "cool", but usually don't provide enough lumination to be safe.

Like Super says, it's probably not original. The 39 (except for wagons and commercial vehicles), used a "teardrop" shaped tail light, with the "tail" pointing down. The "chevron" style wasn't used until 1940.

They are making the Lincoln Zephyr style taillights repro in LED versions. (I think Speedway has them on their site.) They look like an over-sized '39 light with two bars, or segments.

the trunk was like the 1940 very rounded and the front fenders had a raised line running in the center.it went from the head lights to the running boards. i know the 1940 had Chevron type tail lights. the tail lights had short tube then a glass lens (round) with a chrome ring around it. sounded like a flat head 8 . head light were like the 1940 fords glass lens and a bulb behind it. thanks for the help once again .the tail lights were not mounted flush to the body like the 40's were.looks like the 1935 ford tail lights. rest of the car looked like a 40 ford 100 horse running wild

A word description of a car can sound accurate to the writer and make no sense at all to the reader. Without a picture, our guesses are just that... only guesses. Sorry, even your comparison "like an older Chevy" gives us no clue at all.
