What is the recommended Power Valve for the 39-53 Ford Holley Carburetor. Either part number or opening vacuum-inches of mercury Thanks

The typical power valve is a source of problems for the carb. many suppliers valves have a radius corner between the threads and the gasket surface. The radius causes the PV to not seat properly in the carb. The gasket can also be a source of problems. I suggest you contact Charlie Schwindler NY (Charlie had an article in the V8 Times regarding the radius of the PV ), Max Musgrove UT or Ken Isidor CT. They have their thoughts as to the proper size and can supply the correct PV and gasket. The length of the accelerator pump shaft can also be a problem since many rebuilding kits have a rod that is short causing poor acceleration. Rebuilding kits with fuel shut off valves, center section with the black plastic tip can also be a problem with modern fuel.

There were different values used in different years and I cannot find any documentation on them. Most year cars are happy with a power valve in the 5.5 to 6.5 range. You can go lower (3.5) without sacrificing performance, but higher than 7.0 will probably lead to a too rich mixture. You can get the flat power valve from Vintage Speed http://www.vintagespeed.com/ or Daytona Parts http://www.daytonaparts.com/carburetor.html The kit from Daytona Parts is the most complete kit available and contains quality parts. Most of the kits today originate from China,w/ 7.5 PV N/G too high. Use 5.5 on a single carb setup 3.5-4.5 on a 2x2 setup. Short shaft accelerator pumps are made for 49-51 Merc carbs, not 94's !!! Steel tipped inlet needles are at a premium as they are no longer produced,[i have a small supply of them] Also i use leather accel pumps of the correct length. For more info. PM me on the ford barn website or call my cell 1-203-260-5945. ken ct.
