Howdy, Boys: I've got a case or two of Motorcraft 15W-40 oil sitting on the shelf - left over from my "Power-stroke" days. Now, I have just bought me a '39 Deluxe. Will this oil be a good substitute for the original single viscosity, or do I need to get 20W-50? Much obliged. Mike Durhan

Mike: Just use it. If we run out of 20-50, we use 15-40, usually Rotella. Up until recently, oils designed for diesel engines used more ZZDP (zinc) than the type sold for gasoline engines. This has changed a bit as particulate filters are now becoming mandatory in some cases, and a urea solution is added by injection. The difference in zinc content isn't likely to affect the Ford flatheads. Those tough engines have survived for decades on various grades and weights of oil.
