Was a 3.78 ring and pinion ever available for the 33-34 rear end ?? Are they available now? thx steve

The common ratios used for those years were 4:11 and 3:563. There was also a 4:33 that was used in light trucks, according to the parts manual. I haven't seen a 3:78 for the 33-34 in my sources. The 3:54 is sold, but the only 3:78 I've run across is for the '32. The high ratio was due to the roads of the day. The '34 is fairly light, so the "high speed" 3:54 is more often used on today's highways.

You can put 3.78:1, '35-'48 ring and pinion gears in a '33-'34 rear. The process requires some machining/grinding of the ring and pinion. There was a post regarding this last week on the Fordbarn. Richard Lacy of the EFV8 Garage in LA has this procedure outlined and posted his info on that Fordbarn thread. There were also two articles on how to do this in the EFV8C/A, V8 Times magazine. The issues for these articles are mentioned in the post. Check it out. Might be the info you are looking for. JM
