Hi all, New to this '41. I have a 41 convertible (not sure if it is a deluxe, don't know how to tell) The engine in it was shot. One cylinder was badly pitted and engine frozen ( second two pictures) I bought a rebuilt '37 to put in ( first picture). Wanted to know what I should swap over from the '41 engine to the '37. I would have to swap the crank pulley. What about the intake manifold, distributor, or anything else? I also see that the throw out bearing seems to be different before 1941. Which should I get? thanks John

Before you get to carried away.............. Count the head studs. A 1937 block would have 21 and an 1941 block would have 24.

The engine in your 2nd picture looks to be a 8BA - 1949-53 Ford Flathead V8 engine...

All Ford open cars since 1934 are DeLuxe. It appears that the two end pics are of the same 21 stud '37 or '38 engine, and as stated above, the middle pic carries an 8BA style timing cover, which is not likely to have been running in your '41 Convertible due to distributor clearance issues. A stuck engine is not necessarily junk, don't chuck it out before checking for cracks, as it may be worthy of rebuilding. Either engine will work for you, but neither is correct and will cause fitment issues.

The 37 looks like it is missing the lower half of the bell housing. Where can I get one?

Rebuilding Flathead Ford V-8 engines can be an expensive proposition. How much money are you willing to spend to get a good running engine into your '41? Your best course of action might be to place an ad for a good running used 1941 Ford V-8 engine on this website. In the past I have had positive experiences placing ads here for the parts I needed to keep my old Fords on the road.

There's a big chunk broken out of the bell housing in your photo. That engine is basically junk.

It looks like the back portion of the oil pan is missing. This is possibly a truck pan which had a section that was removable to service the clutch. The water pumps are dual pully with an extended water inlet commonly called "bus pumps" as they were used in busses and heavy trucks. I would look in the parts for sale or advertise for a correct engine or a 59AB motor common to 45-48 Fords. Rebuilds are expensive and I see too many issues with the engines you have.
