I am building a stock 32 V8 engine with the steel cam. I have an all new 8BA valve train I could use with old Johnson lifters or NOS 32-48 lifters. I am worried about the steel lifters on the steel cam but also about using the 32-48 lifters with the smaller stem 8BA valves. I would some real world experience as I don't want to do something wrong. I also have NOS stock 32-48 valve parts. The guides I have are oversize and won't go in the bores. I can get suitable guides and have it all stock. HELP!

I have a 59AB with 51 valves and Johnson lifters running fine for over 5 years. But I remember someone (perhaps in Fordbarn) advising me to get the lifters "recrowned". I did this somewhere out west. I was waiting for an engine expert here to give his opinion. Perhaps ask your question on Fordbarn.com

These questions would best be addressed to our club's Flathead Engines Advisor, Joe Abbin whose contact information is listed in the V-8 Times Magazine.
