getting close to firing my newly rebuilt 49ba , slight cam, dual carb (new carbs from Charlie Price) in a 41 ford - coupe - wondering about regular unleaded gas and what oil is best for initial run in and after that - thanks

Regular unleaded gas should be fine. For oil I would use a good detergent oil and 20/40 weight. You will also get other opinions, so you can pick and choose what you feel is best. Do not use non-detergent oil.

If you use a modern oil with an API Service Rating of SN or later, be sure to use an oil additive which contains the proper amounts of ZDDP to minimize cam lobe/valve lifter wear. This is especially important if you use a camshaft with a more aggressive lift profile than the stock cam. One additive which provides the needed wear protection is Red Line Engine Oil Break-In Additive. It comes in a 16 oz. plastic bottle and is available from many vendors. Just follow the instructions on the bottle for proper usage.
