1937 car shock links

I'm getting to the point of installing my newly rebuilt shocks. I need new shock links. My old links are 3 inch, yet I see that the vendors have 3 and 4 inch links for 1937 cars. I'm not sure that the old 3" links are originals. My car is a mess of different parts. Why would there be different length shock links? Could it be that the shocks have different arm lengths or something like that? Thanks, for the help, Mike.

Yes, it's possible that the shock links are different lengths because the shock absorber arms are of different lengths. This would affect the amount of travel the shock absorber has, and therefore the length of the link needed to connect it to the suspension. It's also possible that different lengths were used for different years or models of the car, or for specific suspension setups. Without knowing more about the specifics of your car, it's difficult to say which length would be correct. https://turningradius.net/

Well... it's a 1937 standard humpback 4 door car. Is there something else that would discribe it? Thanks, Mike And 85hp engine

I just called Andy Falandes, the guy that rebuilt the shocks and he said that the 4 inch links are for the front and the 3 inch links are for the back, for this particular car. Thanks for the help, Mike

Originally, all '37's had two four inch shock links on the front and two three inch shock links on the rear as previously mentioned. Argueably, if you want to be real specific, each original cast iron link had a stud with a 5/16" fine thread, thick nut and lock washer while most service replacements and aftermarket links had a shorter stud with a marsden style nut without the lock washer. Also, some cars were originally fitted with stamped steel versions. It seems that the four inch original and replacement links are more difficult to find.
