VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

Hi! New member here

We have recently became the caretakers of a 1936 Ford 5 window Deluxe Coupe. We have no history of the vehicle and are muddling our way through learning about it. We grew up wrenching on cars, but never tinkered with "the old stuff", that is anything pre-WWII.

We have looked (internet and videos) but cannot find how the light switch is supposed to operate from the driver's perspective. We believe ours is not operating correctly from what we have learned through diagrams and pictures of the switch.

From those we believe that you turn the switch to the left once for parking, left again for low beams and once more left for the high beams:

OFF
Left 1 = Park
Left 2 = Low
Left 3 = High

Currently, our switch turns to only two position: Once to the left = high beams, and once to the right = low beams.

OFF
Left 1 = High

OFF
Right 1 = Low

We don't believe this is operating correctly and would like verification of how it is actually supposed to operate - from the driver's perspective - before we take the switch apart.

The previous owner converted the lights to 12v and added a United Pacific A5007 turn signal switch. Don't think has any bearing on how the factory light switch should be operating, but wanted to give a complete picture of what is connected.

Since you are "new" to old Fords I would recommend that you purchase the 1935-36 Ford book that is put out by the V-8 Club. You can purchase it from the "on-line store" in the left menu of this site. I think you will find it very useful to your "new" '36 Ford. The book will answer many of your questions along with you using this site.

I'd add an original owners manual to your library as well, which will be helpful with basics such as the question you have posed. They are not expensive and show up with regularity on ebay and Amazon.

You can get an Owners Manual for a 1936 Ford from C&G. They show that there is one in stock.

It is the owners reference manual that shows the operation of the switch from the drivers seat. With the switch vertical is OFF. One position C.W. and two C.C.W. The diagram of the switch in the wiring diagrams (also in the owners manual) is not drawn correctly since there is no OFF position . Be aware the 38 or 39 Ford had a foot switch operating the country and low beam headlight so their switch has one less position. You may have the wrong light switch, since the 36 should have 4 positions.

Thanks 40 Coupe! Some good information there - we wouldn't have known about that change for 38/39!

As we move our switch on the wheel, it only goes one position left (CCW) or one position right (CW) with off being vertical (V8 emblem correct). It does not seem to want to move anymore than that and we don't want to force it.

Looks like the only way to solve the mystery is to take the clamp off and pull the switch out of the housing.

We'll post what we find.

If you only have three positions it appears you have the wrong switch body.

UPDATE:

Since the lights are working at this time, the owners have decided to keep it as it.

If we ever have to take the lighting switch apart in the future, we will be sure to post pics of our findings.
