Just had my engine overhauled in Santa Rosa. Got it back had noticed it was missing on acceleration. I drove it for a while about 600 miles. Had a radiator leak problem. I had that repaired and it is still missing. When I picked it up at the Radiator Shop, I had to prime the carburetor to get it started. Once it was started it idled just great. No miss. Then I started out to drive home about 4 miles. It was missing in all gears and when I would accelerate. What is the easy fix? I do need a new carb. It has been rebuilt too many times. I have a line on a 97 soon I hope. Help me, please.

One rule of thumb for a spark ignition engine is that if it misses, 90% of the time the problem is caused by the ignition system. First check all of the ignition wires to see that they are securely attached to the correct spark plugs and that they are fully inserted into the distributor. If the miss only occurs on accelerations or when load is placed upon the engine, you may have a fuel delivery problem. Check to see if you have any contaminants in the carburetor or fuel pump. Check for leaks especially on the lines leading to the inlet of the fuel pump - you may have a vacuum leak in the fuel line preventing the pump from delivering an adequate amount of fuel.

There is no easy fix. You have to explore various possible problem areas. If you want your 97 rebuilt and repaired properly Uncle Max (Max Musgrove 801-583-6169) is the person.
