I have a 36 Cabriolet with an electrical issue and was told by by a mechanic that they would not adjust the generator since I had an Optima battery installed in the car. What is the best battery for the car?

Your question should be about where to find a better mechanic.

I use optimas exclusively in my cars, vintage and modern. For one reason, since they tend to stay charged longer, especially during periods of non use, the generator[or alternator] doesn't have to work so hard. I suspect your mechanic is not familiar with the older electrical systems. To answer your question, optima is far and away the best battery available today, especially for vintage cars. They cost more, but will outlast a regular lead acid battery 3 or 4 times.

Best buy on a 6 Volt Optima is Summit Racing, $112.97 with free shipping. No core charge or exchange either. I'm happy with them.

That's a very personal choice. They are all good.

I agree with Alan. The Optima battery is a lead acid battery using the same chemistry as the original battery for your car. It just has superior packaging that prevents leaks and loss of electrolyte. If you enjoy painting your battery tray and the metal cover every year, go to a store that sells batteries and buy one with enough capacity to start your car and replace the Optima and your mechanic. Why do you think that you need your generator adjusted?
