I have my block back from the machine shop for cleaning and magnaflux. All was good. I was staring at it and noticed the top row cast water jacket openings were different from one side to the other. I measured something more accurate like the tip of the cylinder bore to the intake surface. The driver's side is approximately .375 farther down from the intake surface from what the right said measures. Is this normal?

I would be more concerned about the top right water passage and it being elongated or??

Just a word of warning that you probably don't want to hear. Supporting a Ford block with an engine stand bolted to the bell housing is asking for the bell housing to break off. The better way is an engine stand that bolts at the manafold openings

I agree with 42wagon. Got steeltoes? The difference between one side and the other is likely due to the design of the block, the crank being slightly offset from centerline by about 3/32", if I remember right. Look up an original spec print, you'll see it. Something about harmonics or whatever.

I agree with 42 concerning hanging the engine from the back.

Is there a crack between # 2 intake and the cylinder wall? Or just spots on the photo?
