I am preparing my 1940 convertible for concourse showing this year, and have a couple of questions (at least for now): 1. The 1940 Ford Book says that the 5 rib H-10 spark plugs are acceptable if the bases are blackened. Is this still correct? I am going to try to find a set of original plugs but I know this will be very difficult. 2. Where is the best source for a high quality Ford script battery? Thanks. Bob Scales Bristol, TN

Bob, The five rib plugs are incorrect regardless of whether or not the bases have been blackened. There is a standard deduction of one point per incorrect plug. And, you are correct in that the authentic plugs are difficult to locate. Still, they can be found. Recently I had acquired two sets (nos)... they're "out there" if ya look real hard As far as I am aware, all of the Ford script batteries comes initially from one place. That being a place in Youngstown, Ohio. Personally, I don't care for their service and especially the attitude of the gal that answers the phone. Out of perhaps the last eight batteries I'd purchased from them, only one was exactly as ordered. Yes, they always "make it right" but that is always a pain in the butt. I prefer to buy the identical battery from Tom at :http://www.restorationbattery.com/2hf.html or: 513-574-4481. Tom is always quite pleasant to deal with. His prices are very competitive. And, I have always got what I had ordered the first time Hope this helps. What show(s) are you planning on attending? Kind regards, Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Thanks Mike. I have posted an ad in classified, and will search additional sources for these plugs. If you would like to sell one of your sets, please let me know. We plan to take the car to the Concord, NC show in June. This is our first Early Ford V8 show, although our Model A and Model T have been shown in AACA shows. Bob
