Kubes were boot covers a factory option? I have looked at a lot of pictures not all the snap placement does not look the same. Is there a snap supposed to be where i have a screw? Is there a snap that uses machine screws?

There were two distinct designs of the so called "banana clips". Yours required a snap in the place you have a screw.

I'd really need to see what is beneath the "banana clip" trim to say for certain what type of fastener was utilized there. My hunch is the clips do not match the body beneath them.

Mike thanks for the help, i wound up making an aluminum spacer for that front snap , two days of sweating out to get the snaps in with out scratching the paint or ripping the fabric. Now to put the the snaps in the boot,, should they be plain stainless or painted beige?

Snaps are stainless... "rustless steel" in that days terminology.

Stainless steel is rustless because of the nickel in it. Nickel is an element, and elements are prime, and won't break down. Stainless steel is steel and nickel. Brass is copper and zinc. Copper is an element, and zinc adds hardness. Brass is used for the nuts on exhaust manifolds because it won't seize or rust like steel would. As a former machinest, Mike knows that, this info is for you other guys.
