VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

6:50 x 16" were absolutely available on the 1940 Ford passenger cars. However, NOT on a car equipped with the 60HP engine. The 60HP cars wore 5:50's as standard equipment. 6:00 were optional on these cars but wider wheels had to be purchased at the same time.
Tires were supplied to Ford in 1940 by Goodrich, Goodyear, Firestone and of course, Ford Motor Co. itself.
Pros? Cons?
Personally I think the 6:50's look better on any '40 Ford. They fill the fender opening much better in my opinion. They are about 2" taller and about an inch wider than the 6:00. Very noticeable indeed.
Drive-ability pros / cons? None that I have ever noted.
By the way, whitewall tires were NEVER available on the 60HP cars.

Thanks for the added info for this guy. I know Firestone was a major supplier for Ford but he did use Goodyear also to a lesser extent and Ford script ones. A 5 point deduction wouldn't hurt him too much it depends how much he wants a $ 5.00 trophy LOL. ken ct.

I lost my options list for the 1940 Ford, but I don't remember that 6.50x16 tires were an option for the Ford cars.

"6.00 x 16 inch tires on all 85 hp cars. 5.50 x x16 inch tires on cars with the 60 hp engines. All tires in balanced position on wheels. Black tires are standard on all models. White sidewall tires are available for 85 hp cars at extra cost."

The larger size tire would result in a 1 point per tire deduction, unless you have documentation that says the tires were an option.

As to the style of the tire, there is no mention of this in the judging sheet.

It is very likely that the black tires would be Ford script in 1940. I had a mid-year production coupe, back in 1950 that had 5 Ford script black tires.

If you need a more definitive answer, contact John McBurney, the National Chief Judge.

I guess the better question would be what variety of tires did Ford offer for Standard passenger cars in 1940?

Thank you. So, other than size the Lucas Firestone All Weather tires (the sidewall tread is a bit more "knobby" than say the "pie crust" sidewall) would be permissible in a concourse division? It "appears" that some stock photos show that Ford did use them at the time.

I DONT'T think they would be inapropiate but might be unauthentic if entered in a concourse national ford meet. being the wrong size. I don't think it would be even noticeable at say 10 foot. The size diff is sooo small it would be almost impossible to see the size unless up close and personal. OMO ken ct.

Would 6.50x16 all weather black wall bias ply tires by Lucas for a stock/restored 1940 Standard Tudor be unauthentic or inappropriate?

If not, would the same style in 6.00x16 be authentic or inappropriate?

What would be the pros and cons to either?
