Does anyone know where the VIN's are located on a 40 Ford Convertible? Plates, Stampings or Otherwise?

Stamped into the frame metal (no plate) top rail near the steering box as well as a couple under the body, top rail near the kick up for the rear axle housing LH side and maybe RH. The vehicle serial number was also stamped into the transmission housing just above the inspection cover for the pressure plate. If the transmission has been changed this number will most likely be incorrect.

Just a follow up on what 40 coupe has told you. All you will find is a sequential engine serial number. Ford did not provide any additional information in 1940.

On 40's I have found them in various places from the steering box to the front crossmember on the top of the left frame rail.
