I agree that they shouldn't be vertical. If you are referring to my post above, notice that I said "more vertical". I was alluding to the fact that many of the kits that offered the lower mount for tube shocks bolted to the axle housing flange result in a 45 degree or more angle.

i do belive shocks work better at a 22 dgree angle to the center of the car, not straight up and down

I agree that they are aftermarket. They will bolt through the axle housing flange and the backing plate. I like the way that the shock mount is well inboard of the backing plate, allowing a much more vertical tube shock installation than most brackets of that type.

From what I can see in the photo the rear assembly is correct but someone added the unused shock mounts under the axle housing, they are not 39 and suspect they are aftermarket. They may simply unbolt?

I had a 39 in my shop for some work. I noticed the rear shocks were chassis mounted with 3" links, BUT there appears to be additional mounts under the axle. Did someone swap rears on this car? I will attempt to post a picture of the extra mount.
