just wondering where the best place to winch up to remove engine. carb mtg., spark plug hole/manifold or somewhere else?

Never by the carb mount. Use the tapped holes in the block for the intake manifold. Use 2 mallible iron eye bolts 1 in front and 1 in rear.ken ct.

I bought a scr*p of steel plate that was the width of the intake manifold and about 16" long. With the intake remove I used it as a guide to mark holes in the plate. I used 8 holes (4 per side) and drilled it the so the bolts would pass through and tighten the plate to the intake surface of the motor. I also drilled the center of the plate in two places (about 3 inches from each end)to accept large iron eye bolts to attach the chain from the hoist. Using the plate spreads the weight so you are not using just a couple of bolts to lift the engine.
