I had to replace the upper steering bearing in the 46 when I pulled the old(bad) one out I noticed the bearing housing was still in the tube, about an inch down in the tube.It does not want to come out,can I just put the new bearing in this housing? Seems that this does hold the bearing in place. Thanks John lubinski

John: That bearing is held in place by a rubber collar that rides on a bushing sleeve. You can see the assembly on page 52 of the C&G online catalog. Getting the old one out can take some patience, as they are usually stuck in the tube.

You might try drilling a small hole in the housing sand then use a slide hammer(dent puller) to get it out.You can also drive it down further and then put the new bearing in the same location.
