VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

I would advise against your stamping anything on your frame.
If you do it is illegal in all states and could result in your car being seized for having a altered serial number.
Just my two cents worth.

California does want a chassis number. In my former occupation I used to verify those numbers for V-8ers and other Fordophiles. Check the top of left frame rail from the cowl to the front crossmember.These numbers were stamped as the car moved down the assembley line. Usually they are near the steering box mount, but not always.

You mention that CA wants a chassis number. Here in my state it depends on which officer inspects the car. My car has a very visible number on the frame that matches the title. The officer was upset because the title did not match the number that was on the body. I had to get my restoration book out to show him that that was only a body number and not a vin number.

They are correct in that it should be on the top of the left frame rail. Look right behind where the extra firewall cowl support is on the cabriolets and roadsters. It was in the seventies since I saw mine but it seems like the body was sitting over it. That extra cowl support bolts to the frame and has a piece of webbing along the rail that keeps me from seeing where I think the number is.

I just looked and it may well be under where the body sits. It is the same number that is on my transmission housing. If your transmission is changed, that number is gone with it. Like Moxie says, they are stamped rather light sometimes but a couple of places down the left side. I don't know why multiple times.

If you had a '36 transmission OR a good title, I would use that number and stamp the frame near where the steering column hooks to the frame if it has no other markings. At least you can see it when you raise the hood. Just my two cents worth.

Be very careful what you use to clean the top of the left frame rail. Aggressive wire brushing may obliterate the numbers. Use a light held at a low level and maybe a magnifying glass. If the frame isn't too rusted you should find at least one of the three number locations.

I’m sure you have this information already but every 34,35 and 36 chassis I’ve seen, there has always been a vin number stamped on top of the left rail right by the steering column and 2 other places further down on the rail. It starts with a star than 18-XXXXXX. If you use a wire brush or sand blast and see no number then it is either gone by way of rust or someone grind it off. It’s there if it’s an original chassis.

I'm in the process of restoring a 36 cab. I have the body off the chassis and I can find no vin stamped anywhere. I've checked the side rails 100 times and every where else, and nothing. The engine is not original so the bell housing number is of no help and in Calif. we need a chassis number. Any suggestions? Thanks Bruce
