This vehicle is very rare in Aussie,possibly only one. Are there many in USA. Here in the US about 5000 were built prior to the cut off in mid February 42. Some of those went to the military and there has been the general attrition you might expect in the rest. That said, they are not that unusual here in the states if you know where to look. I note that your wagon has right hand drive. Does it have the V8 or a six cylinder engine? Does it have a radio or heater? Do you know where it was assembled? Canada or Australia? My 42 wagon was built probably late December or early January. All the glass is marked L DA indicating that it was made in December 41. The transmission and frame numbers match. Keep in mind that the engine serial numbers were sequential and assigned at the Rouge engine plant. Even if the two engine numbers are close you still have to allow for the time required to ship an engine to an assembly plant. I know the body for my car was built at Iron Mountain Mich. Since the car spent its entire life in Connecticut it might have been assembled in Dearborn, Buffalo, Edgewater,or Metuchen with my guess being Dearborn. Its interesting to note that the speedometer is callibrated in KPH from the factory. evidentally it was a staff car on a french island in 2ND world war and imported into Aussie after that. The window bugs would then suggest that more than a month transpired between engine manufacture and mating to a body sometime late in Dec or early January (our window bugs are K/DA for November - consistent with a Dec. build date). Kearnsy - The French were under German control by the time our cars were built, and many of the French protectorates in the Pacific fell under British Commonwealth control. Did they build woodies at Canada or Dagenham which could explain the RHD and KPH speedo? or could the car have been produced for Lend-Lease in the states, shipped to the British in the far east, and ended up in Australia? Interesting to speculate. Now maybe I should go back and take a closer look at the glass bugs. If what I read as Ls are really Is the glass was made in September. This would be consistent with a body completely finished at Iron Mountain. However looking at pictures of bodies being loaded for shipment, it would appear that some were completely finished and some needed to be painted and have the trim and windshields (and possibly the side window glass) added. Anyway I would stick with a December build date for my wagon. Maybe early,maybe late. BTW you never said what your serial number is. Just part of the fun of dealing with old Fords. Ted
