On 47 Ford are the painted wheels supposed to have a contrasting stripe or two between the chrome hub cap and the beauty ring? This my car attached below....

Yes, and the stripe(s) will be one of these two colors: Vermillion or Tacoma Cream.

There should be three stripes. Two narrow and one wide. I believe they may have been on all cars except maybe standards. The chrome ring was an accessory. Ford apparently mounted the wheel on a stand so it could be spun and used a three head striping tool to install all three stripes at once.

Hhmmm, I thought so. But I am wondering if that would make it too busy with all the chrome and the wide white tire.. Oh well thanks for the information

Here's a photo of my '47... That is factory paint on the wheels (and car). Too busy?

Wheels too busy with the factory stripes and factory approved stainless steel ring? I don't think so and apparently Ford didn't either. The question you can only answer. Do you intend to have the car judged? If so you need the stripes.
