Early Ford V-8 Club Forum

FORUM RULES: Users agree to these Rules when using Forum.

The user agrees to the following terms:

  1. All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.

  7. VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
  8. EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

    Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
  9. HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

The only difference between the 21A and 7RT is about 1/8 of an inch in diameter of the inner holes. Everything else is identical (no problems with water pumps, dip sticks etc!!!!). I will be using the 21A manifolds I located unless the pair I see Monday are 7RTs.

I have located a pair of 21As and will be taking my 7RT to the shop with me and physically comparing the manifolds and make my decision that way.

Anyone who may have sourced the 7RTs, please let em know.

The drawings in the parts manuals are too general to point out the differences. From what I remember there is a different angle on the right hand manifold connection to the "Y" pipe. There is so little room for modifications in the cab over, that I would be concerned about using the 21A manifolds.

Anything is possible, but, as someone said above, manifolds are model specific. The proper manifolds are 7RT.

Thank you everyone for all your input. I'm working on locating a pair of 7RT-9430/1 manifolds and have a couple of leads. However, I'm concerned because I pulled a 21A-9431 off of mine. Would it be possible to use a 21A-9430 as well as I may have to by them in sets?

Can anyone explain or have pictures showing the differences between the 21A and the 7RT manifolds?

The parts book calls out the 7RT-9430/1 manifolds for your cab over.

These were used in all 48-52 trucks and pickups with the 239 engine. Your best bet is to put an ad on a hot rod site where someone has put am modern engine in a pickup.

If you want to put duals on it then have a muffler shop fabricate headers for it.

C&G has two kinds of headers that make good replacements for broken original exhaust manifolds. The tube headers don't require dipstick tube modification, but the cast iron set does. Finding specific unbroken exhaust manifolds has become a problem, and repros are about as, or more, expensive as headers. If you are not a purist, it is something to consider.

guys the exhaust manifolds for any flathead will work, but the problem is the truck water pumps and interference with truck dipsticks. 8Ba exhaust manifolds exit off the front and will interefere with the water pumps, probably why the 21A manifold was used-exits off the bottom, the repro dual manifold will not work on the truck because it interferes with the truck dipstick with rear sump oil pan

I had the engine (239 V8 8RT) pulled and it is being rebuilt to be placed back into the same vehicle (1952 Ford F6 Cab). The existing manifolds self destructed. As stated above, one manifold is stamped 21A-9431 and the other 7RT-9430. I'm looking for advice on trying to source viable replacements. I'm guessing that I really need a pair of 7RT-9430/1 manifolds, but have not been able to find any as of yet.

I have found an 8BA-9430/1 set and the bolt patterns and such match up and are used on the 239 for cars, but not trucks. If they would be functionally viable and wouldn't have to re-work the entire exhaust system, I would use them.

Exhaust manifolds are specific to the vehicle. If you have a pickup you should use the same manifolds that were on the car.
