VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)

WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

I am having my 239 Flathead V8 rebuilt and the exhaust manifolds apparently "self destructed". The left one has a crack that may be salvageable, but the right one is in two pieces.

I am finding some listings that have 8BA casting numbers, but thought that the 8RT used different ones that would start with an 8RT casting number.

Any insight on sourcing viable replacements and part numbers would be appreciated.

If you are going to dual exhaust you might call Pat Rooney in Ohio(he's listed in the roster). Pat makes a new left side manifold for duals and may have access to some right side manifolds.

The 8BA and 8RT exhaust manifolds are different.

So I cleaned one of the castings off and think I can read the casting number 21A-9431. This is not what I was expecting. I was expecting something like 8RT-9431.

Is 21A-9431 a valid exhaust manifold? Is it the <strike>right</strike> correct manifold? How available are replacements?

I don't know about the casting numbers, but the part numbers for most 48-53 trucks are 7RT-9430 and 7RT-9431. The casting numbers would probably also start with 7RT. Casting numbers are different than parts numbers except for the prefix e.g., 7RT.

I spent some time today cleaning up the pieces of manifold and this is what I was able to read off:

On one, there is clearly 21A-9431 stamped

On the other, there is 7RT-9430 stamped.

I think that the 21A was used on 38-46 Fords.

Can I use 8BA-9430 and 8BA-9431? I sourced those.

Exhaust manifolds are specific to the vehicle. If you have a pickup you should use the same manifolds that were on the car.

I had the engine (239 V8 8RT) pulled and it is being rebuilt to be placed back into the same vehicle (1952 Ford F6 Cab). The existing manifolds self destructed. As stated above, one manifold is stamped 21A-9431 and the other 7RT-9430. I'm looking for advice on trying to source viable replacements. I'm guessing that I really need a pair of 7RT-9430/1 manifolds, but have not been able to find any as of yet.

I have found an 8BA-9430/1 set and the bolt patterns and such match up and are used on the 239 for cars, but not trucks. If they would be functionally viable and wouldn't have to re-work the entire exhaust system, I would use them.

guys the exhaust manifolds for any flathead will work, but the problem is the truck water pumps and interference with truck dipsticks. 8Ba exhaust manifolds exit off the front and will interefere with the water pumps, probably why the 21A manifold was used-exits off the bottom, the repro dual manifold will not work on the truck because it interferes with the truck dipstick with rear sump oil pan

C&G has two kinds of headers that make good replacements for broken original exhaust manifolds. The tube headers don't require dipstick tube modification, but the cast iron set does. Finding specific unbroken exhaust manifolds has become a problem, and repros are about as, or more, expensive as headers. If you are not a purist, it is something to consider.
