VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

Was able to get to Rhode Island Wiring yesterday. What a place! Got the full tour from Marsha. At first she went around to various bins to put together the parts that I would need. Then she asked if I wanted her to put it together for me, for just $4 each. Easy decision! She asked what kind/color of wire I wanted, and within a few minutes, she was back with the finished product. She then put the new wires into the sockets and reattached the one to the switch. I took the un-switched one back apart for illustration. Check out the finished product.

Working on the same thing for my '48. I'm heading to Rhode Island Wiring Service (http://www.riwire.com/) today to see if I can source replacement components for the pillar lights, under hood light, backup light and maybe even the trunk light. Good luck with yours.

Steve, Thank you for your response and tips on doing the job. I did get the light assembly off and found a real jackpot. Someone was in there before and did a hack job, as they taped over the wires with masking tape then vinyl tape to insulate them. I also found that insulation was missing up inside the roof area. I'll fix that by cutting off the terminal, sliding a length of woven wire loom over the wire then install a new terminal. The switch unfortunately had self destructed. The fiber piece that holds the two contacts is broken, and the little ball that goes on top of the spring in the switch toggle is missing. I will have to look for a replacement socket/switch assembly, which I hope I can find.

Yes 51woodie it pries off but not with a screwdriver. Using a softer nylon pry tool at most, and even then by placing a firm surface of non-marring, non-staining plastic or the like under the pry tool so as not to damage that beautiful headliner material.

BUT...before you even try that, try quickly flipping the on/off toggle switch back and forth several times. Those things are notorious for becoming dirty, dusty and corroded and sometimes cycling it several times will adequately clean the contacts and render the light functional again. My '47's light, for which the car sat for >40 years in storage, was brought back to life in this manner without prying off the cover. Fwiw

I'm surprised no one responded to my question. Maybe it was because I had the answer but was not sure, or maybe it was too simple a job. In any event, I did get a response on the Barn, so now I feel comfortable about taking the light apart.

How do I open up the courtesy lights, to check the bulbs and service the on/off switch? Pry somewhere with a screwdriver would be my guess, but I prefer to learn from experience, not experimentation. Especially when working on something that is hard to replace if I broke it.
