'46 Vent Window Gear Replacement

Both vent windows had stripped gears when I bought the car, I purchase two kits, 11A-7023402-GR, (made in Taiwan) from DC. The gears in the kits were excellent and fit very well. The rivets were too small 3/16" vs 1/4" dia. and almost too short to peen over even if they were the right diameter. The springs in the kits were the right size, but lacked I tension compared the original spring. I couldn't get 1/4" rivets locally, so I used 1/4"X3/4" NC bolts and locking nuts. Assembled nicely and the window/cranks work just like new.

Hello, you may have a clearance problem when you install the assembly in the door ,I did and had to go to 1/4 inch rivets which you can buy from McMaster Carr,good luck,John

John. I thought that may be a problem. but if you look at the picture you will see that the bolts are put in from the door skin side, as there is enough space for the threaded ends on the crank side. The frame/trim went back in place, no problem

When I replaced the vent window gears in my 1942 Ford I used pan head fine thread machine screws that just fit in the hole that the rivet had been in. Then used a flat washer, lock washer, and a nut to hold it together. I used a screw just long enough to have two threads showing past the nut and used lock tight. Has worked now for many years.
