I am rebuilding my engine on my 53 ford sunliner, 239 cu in.,v8 flathead, after installing my crankshaft and pulley, I started to installed the new water pumps and noticed the pulleys didn't line up to my crankshaft pulley ,my ques.is do I need to buy an crankshaft pulley extension piece and if so ,how does it attach to the pulley?

remember you have two belts on your engine.

Should be a double pulley on the crankshaft to accommodate the two belts. See attached picture....

I do have a two belt pulley and plan on using two belts but when I got my crankshaft back from the machine shop there must have been a crankshaft extension on it because the pulley is now about 1 1/4 inch short and does not line up with the other pulleys.

Is the timing gear on the crankshaft? Could the shop have failed to reinstall it?

Are you sure you have the correct water pumps? Flat head water pumps come in different configurations for different years. Do you still have your old pumps to compare?
