Regarding the hose that goes from the firewall to the lower radiator hose on my 48: is it routed in a partiular way? Does it have any supports or brackets associated with it?

There are two clamps that hold the hoses, and are placed about mid way between the firewall and the radiator. They are part number 91A-15151/2 in the kit from C&G (800/266-0470) They connect the hoses to the spark plug wire looms. Many were lost over the years. The kit sells for about $50.

Incidental note re distributor caps ..... there is a circular gasket available which goes between the cap and distributor body. Although it provides some resistance to water/dirt entry into the distributor, its usage appears to have been lost in the passage of time .... some saying it is not needed. Its still available.
