My buddy has a 38 and we noticed on the top of the steering tube there is a small hole about 8 inches down from the top. What is it there for?

it might be the broken piece that orginally was the steering lock, some people remove them, dos it look like a brokend spot weld ? esp if some one lost the orginal keys and wanted to use the car and used a differrent ignition switch, this is my thought on it, but have none to compare to, can you post a picture of what you are asking about,? hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN

I can't post pictures. The hole is small. About the size of the tip of an oil can. It is half way up between the steering lock and steering wheel. I thout it might be to lube the rubber bushing but i think all the bushing are at the top of the tube like my 40. Thank you both for your input.

I don't believe that that hole should be there. I've never seen one on a Ford column.

Most likely for some after market thing--flashlight holder or something-- not supposed to be there.
