My transmission is out of my truck and going to be rebuilt. Can someone tell me what the problem is when it is in 2nd gear and I take my foot off the accelerator it will drop out of gear.

My guess: excessive wear in syncro assembly [if it is a 3speed ] or weak or broken detent spring in the shift lever assembly.

Thanks, I am thinking synchro sounds good, the spring on shifter seems strong.

Slide the syncro collar back and forth between 2nd and high gear. It should "snap" into place in each gear. If not look for wear or weak springs on the 3 retainers. I'm guessing this may be your problem if it's not the detents in the lever[s]. Of course you need to remove the trans. top. The problem you describe would probably not make any unusual noises.
