My 46 ford V/8 has a problem. I have a knocking noise at idle and low rpm after warmed up. However, I can remove the oil filler cap and hold my hand over top and knock goes away. I recently had distributor out to R & R points. Did not hear knock before. What could it be?

Well i always go to the last repair to see if something is wrong. That being said i would use wooden dowel or long screwdriver to listen to where the noise is coming from. Also you can cut a piece of hose and use that to isolate where the noise is coming from.

Some fuel pumps make a knocking noise, so I would start listening near the pump, using the method shogun1940 suggested.
