The number on the tailamp bulbs will also tell you if they are 6 volt or 12 volt.

Check the voltage regulator for voltage written on it. It might be on the back. I think headlight sealed beam bulbs had the voltage on the back of them.

I am getting ahead of myself here, because I am still building my engine. However, I purchased a 53 Ranchwagon that had been sitting many years. There was not a battery in it. Engine bay looks original. My question is, how do I know if this is still the old 6 volt positive ground system, or if it has been changed over to a 12 volt negative ground system? I can't see a difference in the battery cable end sizes. What items do I look for to verify? Thanks
