On a 1940 Mercury: where is the best place to put Jack stands to support car? Where is best place to just Jack up one wheel of the car? Thanks. New owner.

I usually place the jackstands under the axle. If you have to have the axle free, place them by the running board supports. To remove a rear tire, the running board support is used, so the wheel will drop down out of the fender. The axle is the best place to jack up the front wheel.

I should have said the the frame by the running board support. The running board support will not support the car.
